New term alert, Tony. You're not ashamed of porn, you're ashamed of "industrial porn" the way artisan vintners were ashamed of industrial wines Gallo and Boone's Farm thirty years ago, the way microbreweries were ashamed of industrial beers like Schlitz and Coors, the way artisan bakers were ashamed of industrial products like Wonderbread, and the way independant filmmakers were ashamed of industrial films like Freddy the 13th.

Industrial wine, industrial coffee, industrial beer, industrial bread, industrial film, industrial porn. Nobody makes money in those markets because they're commodity markets. I hereby brand you and people who actually give a fuck, are willing to spend more to create better products, artisan pornographers.

Now even cowboys in Colorado, and loggers on the coast in Washington are willing to pay a little more to drink microbrew beer. Even slackers will pay more to drink "microbrewery" coffee. Virtually everyone is willing to pay a little more for boutique wines, and more and more are paying a little extra to buy artisan breads.

I'll pay a little extra to see artisan porn. I wouldn't pay a nickle to see industrial porn.

Your goal right now ought to be to found your own Cannes/Sundance-style festival. At this point you might be able to have it in your back yard, and also at this point you're sure to win the first award for best artisan porn DVD. But if you can grow the category I think your potential market will turn out to be at least as big as the market for Starbucks', Essential Bakery's, Redhook's, Rogue River's, or any of the other emerging (and now sometimes huge) artisan product markets.

Just a thought. :-)

For me, the decor either supports the action or detracts from it. And pretty much I like the decor and lighting to reflect and enhance the intimacy of what I'm viewing -- if you've got the opportunity to make something simple and beautiful, why it make it anything else? How many adult films can you remember viewing and thinking "wow" the lighting is wonderful? Or "Don't they look amazing against that bedcover?" I like it when I get surprised and get "given" something that looks beautiful and turns me on too -- I think the two things are connected. :)

Cheers,
