Have You Driven a Ford Lately?

Not me. We have an old, pre-Ford takeover Volvo station wagon. Mrs. C likes it very much, and I had thought that when it was time to get a new car I might be able to get over my grudge against Henry Ford long enough to buy another one.

Not now. Probably not ever.

Is there some new bit of news on Ford that has reinforced your grudge? (I assume the grudge is against his racism?)

Last week, under preasure from one of those jackass fundie groups, Ford pulled it’s advertising for Jaguar and Range Rover from several gay publications and announced those name plates would no longer be sponsering queer events in places like Palm Springs… and then they had the temerity to say the decisson had nothing to do with the family values boycott. It was just a business decission.

Now I wake up and find out that under the weight of a week’s bad press, they’re reversing themselves.

I don’t know which I lothe more; a bigot or a moral coward.

    Fuck you, Ford.

    I salute you.

Although you may love the Volvo, try the other Swedish flavor, Saab.

Sure, they build fighter jets and are partially owned by GM, but hey, they are still, just possibly less evil than Ford. The inherent racism that exists in that company, plus the fact that I’ve never driven a Ford that didn’t have the steering wheel set just in almost exactly but not quite the wrong angle prevents me from ever buying one.

Ford rescinded their original decision to pull adverts and is now advertising again, making it safe for liberal-thinking sex-positive folks around the world to enjoy same-sex buggering in a Taurus without irony.

    Really.

    Go Capitalism!
