More Love from the Porn Hater

Copying the Porn Hater wholesale:

“Special thanks to Pornhater reader El Negro Magnifico(a talented artist in his own right) for tipping me off to the incredible graphic design of Alaska, the man (woman? group? state?) behind some of the most amazing porno packaging out there today. The sad thing is that as incredible as Alaska’s packaging is, most of the actual videos are the same old junk that comes out of the San Fernando Valley by the dump truck load.

“What the porn industry needs to do is give people like Alaska a budget and a camera and let them shoot the videos. In the few cases I’ve seen where they’ve hired a director with some vision the results have been impressive, most notably photographer/auteur Carlos Batts and his films. Another visionary director out there today is Tony Comstock, his films are so erotic that the word porn just doesn’t seem adequate to describe them.”

The fucking p-word again, lowering expectation where ever it goes.

I am, of course, very flattered. Now if someone would please (please, please, please!) give me a word, cause “erotica” doesn’t seem adequate either!

I like “fuckfilm.” “Cinerotica”? “Cinemasturbatory”? “Viderotainmen”?

Sorry, the last one, of course, should have read “Viderotainment.” It makes no sense without the “t.”

I like rather sex film - sort of like horror film, only with sex and happiness instead of violence and dread to titilate the audience. But somehow when I say it, sex film ends up seeming more pretentious than horror film, but maybe that’s because I’m pretentious.

I see over on Peggy’s blog you called me and Peggy the “Ozzie and Hariet of alt porn”. Allowing that our films are some species of porn, even when I was 20-something I don’t think I was ever downtown enough to be alt anything, maybe Peggy but not me. Certainly not either of us now. (Even if Xana does have a tattoo the size of Texas on her back.)

Still, it would be nice to have a label that felt comfortable, a half dozen sylables I could produce at will and have people go “Really? Cool!”

What’s wrong with “porn?” Prove that it’s just a word and it can stand for quality against the traditional stereotype. :)

I still like “hardcore love stories”. No one else does explicit sex and explict love - Hardcore love stories is good. Erotica, explicita, domestica all sound vaguely like Latin plant names or at least a trio of Roman sisters…
