Google Is Still Pretty Dumb About Pretty Dumb Things

Update 12.31.06, 9:15
As Matt Cutts notes in the comments, the good news is that searching ‘prettydumbthings.typepad.com’ now returns Pretty Dumb Things, the blog associated with that domain in the top position.
The bad news is that the Google is dumber than ever about Comstock Films. On the search ‘couples porn’ the googlebot is currently ranking zoophilia sites pages high than Comstock Films. What kind of sex are they having over there at Google that a search return like this makes sense? It sure doesn’t look family friendly to me.

I know, I know, it’s just a bug. Whatever. As of 9:30AM December 30th, 2006 it’s still not fixed.
(Call me crazy, but I think if you search ‘prettydumbthings.typepad.com’ then prettydumbthings.typepad.com should be the first return.)

Well the good news is that ‘pretty dumb things’ and ‘prettydumbthings’ now offer Pretty Dumb Things as the first return. But that fact that ‘prettydumbthings.typepad.com does not suggests that the Googlebot is still drinking too much eggnog.

prettydumbthings.typepad.com returns the page for me at this point

Indeed it has, Matt. Meanwhile, Comstock Films’ ranking in searches like couples porn, real sex movies, and sex films, which has seemed to be restored over the last week has crashed again. We’re finding ourselves outranked by zoophilia sites.

Yep, our referrals from Google have dried up today, too.
But then there just seems to be general craziness with Google at the moment. I noticed yesterday that if you searched on ‘Xana and Dax’ we were at No 3, behind two of your posts. Which seems a little crazy considering the number of reviews there must be out there. Searching on ‘Xana and Dax’ today, though, we’re something like No 50 - which seems more sensible to me. Not that I’m complaining that we were No 3, it just didn’t make sense.
I’ve also noticed that if you search on ‘wife whore’ we’re No 1 but if you search on ‘whore wife’ we’re nowhere to be seen. Not that I’m particularly keen to be No 1 for ‘wife whore’ but still - I didn’t think it mattered what order the words are in a search term, unless you use the Advanced Options.
And if you search on ‘perfect marriage’ we are also nowhere to be seen. In the past we’ve always been in the top 10 (or at least top 20) for that one.
No doubt this will have all changed by the time I submit this…
Not that Google ranking matters all that much to me. I don’t depend on it for my livelihood. For me it’s just a matter of interest/curiosity.
