Burning Bridges/Building Bridges (Essin’Em Reviews DAMON AND HUNTER)

Another really nice review of one of our films from Essin’Em. Last time it was ASHLEY AND KISHA, this time it’s DAMON AND HUNTER. It’s a very positive, dare I say insightful review. This is my favorite part:

Oral, hand jobs, anal, general fucking, kissing; you name it, these boys are doing it. After hearing them talk, and then watching them fuck, you can really see how much respect and love for one another there is in this relationship, and that made the sex so much more passionate to me. Now, you could watch just the sex; that is certainly an option, and it is definitely hot on its own. However, what really made this film so outstanding for me was the bridge between the emotional and the physical.

A couple of days ago I wrote an angry screed about what my films are against, and suddenly people who’ve always been interested in my opinions and supportive of my work aren’t returning my phone calls or answering my e-mail. Maybe I’ve burned some bridges, but today  I’m at peace with that.

But it’s not enough to be against, to be angry, to be outraged, not enough for me at least. Hate will get you started, but it won’t sustain you. For that you need love.

So a thank you today to Essin’Em, for a nice review of course, but even more for reminding me that my films are not fueled soley, or even mostly by rage. Thank you to Essin’Em for reminding me that I make these films to show that you don’t have to choose been the emotional and the physical. You don’t have to choose because they’re on the same side. The side I want to be on. The side called love.

I remember when I saw the first of your films; Jack and Marie. I was the “crazy feminist” at work, and everyone was like “oh, here’s a film you’ll love. It’s all lovey and such.” And I watched it. And forwarded it to everyone I knew; the listserve for my graduate program, my friends, my family. And I sent you a letter. I had never seen anything both so touching and so arousing; VERY few companies are able to communicate that through their films, whether they’re “adult” films, or more mainstream (I’ve found a few other adult companies that are getting there, but they are all exclusively queer).

I was amazed. It’s so hard for us to realize that there can be both. Your films have inspired me to bring that into the world as much as I can…and you’re one reason I started my blog, to show that sex is multi-faceted, and can have feelings, and thoughts, and also being incredibly hot. I don’t know if I ever succeed, but I do try.

I own three of your films, and one day, will have the whole collection. I show them at house parties, I lend them to friends. They cross so many invisible barriers, and I am so glad there are people like you and Peggy in the world to help open people’s eyes.
