Please Support Brendan I. Koerner!

I was first introduced to Brendan’s MicroKhan blog via Ta-Nehisi Coats’ blog at The Atlantic. Once there I saw that Brendan asserted an interest in Pluto’s status as a planet (a regular discusion here at Casa Comstock) and MicroKhan has become a regular stop on my blog reading and commenting.
And while mighty media outlets like the San Francisco Chronicle and PBS blush at the thought of linking to the debauchery that is ComstockFilms.com, not so journalist and writer Brendan I. Koerner. I know this because a few days after I passed on one of Brendon’s posts to a friend who blogs at TheAmericanScene.com I began seeing a new inbound link in our stats.
It’s a small thing, but it means lot to me, to be treated as if what we do here at Comstock Films is every bit as interesting and every bit as ligitimate a part of the civil discourse and the marketplace of ideas as Clive Thompson’s Collision Detection, which appears just above Comstock Films in the MicroKhan blogroll, or Crowd Sourcing, which is just below.
I’m writing to day because I’ve just read on MicroKhan that Brendan will be doing three public reading in support of the release of the paperback edition of his novel Now the Hell Will Start.
Thursday, June 11th: Brownstone Books in Bed-Stuy, @ 7 p.m. Here’s the store’sevent’s page, complete with all the goodies you’ll need to get there. Really looking forward to this one—tremendous thanks to our pal Anthony S. Calypso for setting the wheels in motion.
*Monday, June 15th: The Half King in Chelsea, @ 7 p.m. Tough to overstate how excited we are for this, and how much we hope y’all will turn out for a) the reading, and b) the killer beer on tap. If all goes well, Microkhan Jr. will hopefully be in the house, too.
*Sunday, July 5th: Sunny’s Readings Series in beautiful Red Hook, @ 3 p.m. We honestly can think of no better way to close out your Fourth of July weekend than with some Now the Hell Will Start goodness along the Brooklyn waterfront. The bar’s main page is here. (And, yes, we will post a reminder closer to the date.)
If you’re in New York and you are a supporter of what we’re trying to do here at Comstock Films, then I am asking you personally to make an effort to get out and support Brendan as a thank you for the support and collegiality he’s shown us. For the past several months he has been deep in the weeds adapting his novel into a screenplay and hasn’t really had the time to promote these reading as much as they deserve to be promoted. Oh right, I should have mentioned that at the top: Spike Lee bought the screen rights to Now the Hell Will Start. Pretty cool, huh?
Anyway, he’s been deep in the weeds, writing the screenplay and looking after his toddler boy while his wife has been working double-time on her newly launched fashion venture Dirty Dolls Lingerie. Oh right, I should have mentioned that too. Pretty cool family, huh?
So please. If you can show up for one of these readings, please take the time to go. If you have a blog or if you twitter, please let people know. It would mean a lot to me, and I know it will mean a lot to Brendan too! Of course, whether or not you can make it to one of the readings, buy the book!

Am five chapters in - wonderfully written and evocative - there’s some shameful and sad history there but beautifully handled.
