Throughout my professional life I’ve always had avocational side projects. To an artist, side projects are what an R&D lab is to a technology company; a place where inquiry can be conducted free from expectation of (profitable) result. These films of mine - MARIE & JACK, XANA & DAX, etc. started as an avocational side project. Pure inquiry. The simple desire to see the images in my head realized.
These films are no longer a side project (to put it mildly.) Making them, and then bringing them to the world has become an all-encompassing obsession, with (if I let it) a virtually unlimited capacity to devour my time. I have not made a single creative or professional decision that wasn’t these films in perhaps four years. I have not made a single avocational image since the Summer of 2001, back when we shot MARIE & JACK.
It’s time for that to change.
As noted in my last post, I have images of women rolling around in my brain. As these images are unrealized, the only way to explain them is with a series of (possibly) unrelated thought:
I love the look and craft in Playboy of the late 60s and early 70s, but the obsession with youth and perfection is off putting. And I loathe the gynophobia. Being properly socialized, I’m more turned on by women who are age-appropriate for me. Also, because I am properly socialize, I love women’s cunts.
I want to like Abby Winters, with it’s sense enthusiasm and sponteniety, but my heart breaks a little whenever I see how digital photography renders light rolling over a fleshy hip. And I stopped caring about the gender of the photographer back around 1988, when I realized there wasn’t really any (gender informed) difference between the images made by Hank Londoner and Suze Randall.
So, with that rambly preamble, here’s the call for models:
CALL FOR MODELS
Women age 36-48 wanted for a new photo study from award-winning filmmaker Tony Comstock.
Posing will range, by agreement between model and photographer, from semi-nude and/or semi anonymous to explicit and fully identifiable. (Plain english, we decide together how much of your face and twat show.)
Photography will take place in Midtown Manhattan. If you are interested, or have any questions, please contact Tony Comstock at [tony at comstockfilms.com] with the subject line “New York Women”
So there it is. Please pass this along, tell a friend, etc. If you have a blog, please feel free to repost. Thanks!
